All shades of pink explode on the screen as Margot Robbie plays the high-heeled Barbie girl in a Barbie world in the second Barbie trailer, dropped by Warner Bros on Tuesday, promising a visual treat replete with fun gags.
Set in Barbie Land, the one-minute-44-second trailer of the Greta Gerwig directorial, where Robbie plays Barbie and Ryan Gosling plays her boyfriend Ken, introduces the humans in the Barbie universe. It gives a glimpse of Will Ferell as the owner of Mattle and Sex Education star Connor Swindells playing an intern. Another Sex Education star spotted in the teaser is Emma Mackey, who plays a version of Barbie who received a Nobel Prize in Physics. Dua Lipa, who does not appear in the teaser, plays Mermaid Barbie. Issa Rae plays President Barbie, while Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan is Diplomat Barbie. Michael Cera plays Allan, a sidekick to all the Kens in the Barbie universe.
The teaser also gives a short glimpse of the storyline, written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu, who play different versions of Ken, can be seen fighting each other to establish their place in Barbie Land and perhaps in the heart of Margot’s Barbie. Towards the end of the teaser, Margot can be seen trying to exit Barbie Land and go towards the Real World accompanied by Ryan’s Ken and his trusty yellow roller skates.
Based on Mattle’s famous Barbie doll, the comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig, is set for a theatrical release on July 21 in the US. The film will be released internationally from July 19.
