| Rituparna’s two looks in Ami Tumi Shey |
A strict housewife, a husband obsessed with tiger conservation, and a lover from the past — Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s next, tentatively titled Ami Tumi Shey is a departure from the director duo’s youth-film track record of Teen Yaari Katha and Bapi Bari Ja (yet to release).
In Ami Tumi Shey, Rituparna Sengupta and Tota Roy Chowdhury play a couple while Indrajeet is the lover from the past. “Rituparna plays Rina, a wife who had a love marriage with Tota’s Nikhil. But slowly their marriage falls apart because of Tota’s obsession with jungles and tiger conservation. Rina decides to walk out of the marriage with their only daughter Bony (Dwitipriya). And she reunites with Anik (Indrajeet). But it’s not a very intense relationship drama about a broken marriage and an extramarital affair. It’s not a preachy film. We will look at it in a comic light,” said Sudeshna. “Yes, it’s a tongue-in-cheek comedy,” added Abhijit.
Rituparna, riding high on the success of Muktodhara, is looking forward to the film. “I sport two different looks — one with short hair for which I will wear a wig, and the other with long hair. The film travels back and forth and so the two looks,” she said.
Rituparna and Tota had earlier played a couple in Mon Amour, a take on Tagore’s Shesher Kabita, and also the masala flick Aloye Phera. “But in Ami Tumi Shey we are at loggerheads most of the time,” said Rituparna.
“This is our first film with Rituparna. We chose her because when we narrated the story among our team members everyone mutually agreed upon her. Besides, she has a natural flair for comedy.... Both Tota and Indrajeet suit their characters and once you see the film you will know why I say this,” smiled Sudeshna.
Ami Tumi Shey is produced by Brand Value Communications. Neel Dutt will score music for the five songs in the film that hits the floors on Sunday.
