Tintin in town

Treats from Tintin’s home

An old house has been converted into the restaurant, which is divided into three sections. One of the sections has a 3D wallpaper that gives you a feel of dining on a bustling street in Brussels.

What happens when you love Tintin a lot? Gift Calcutta a Tintin-themed restaurant! Arindam Ghosh and Barnali Sensarma Ghosh did just that, with Tintin & The Brussels Club. With Pinaki Manna as their food partner, the couple’s Belgian eatery in Hindustan Park is the first of its kind in town.

“We keep travelling to Belgium since our son lives there. It was during one such trip that we got to visit the Musee Herge (a museum in Belgium dedicated to the life and works of the Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi). We also noticed that there are no restaurants that serve Belgian food in Calcutta apart from waffles. It’s our love for Tintin and Belgian food that resulted in this,” said Barnali.

What: Tintin & The Brussels Club

Where: 52D Hindustan Park, Gariahat

Timings: Noon to 11pm

Meal for two: Rs 1,000 (plus taxes)

COOL CORNERS

The restaurant has some interesting zones. While there are posters, wallpapers and cut-outs of Tintin, Captain Haddock and Professor Calculus throughout, there are Tintin comics and puzzles for comic-book lovers. One of the sections has a piano to be used for live music sessions. And there’s a fish spa that allows diners to relax after a hearty meal.

Belgian Mushroom Cap: This deep-fried dish has mushroom stuffed with two types of cheese —  parmesan and cheddar. What makes it different are the two dips that come with it. While one is a take on the traditional mayo dip with a rich flavour, the other is made with sweet fermented ginger and has a sweet-and-sour taste. Rs 175
Chicory: A Belgian take on the popular Au Gratin, Chicory is made with red meat that is toasted with olive oil, garlic and a cheese sauce, and topped with pork, ham and cheddar cheese. If you love cheese, you will love this dish. Rs 380
Prawn Portages: Think well-cooked prawns with a mild spicy sauce. This is a wholesome meal and a delight for prawn-lovers. The dish comes with a side of sauteed veggies and French fries. Rs 650
Popcorn Mojito: The menu has a selection of sips. We tried Popcorn Mojito and as the name suggests, this mocktail is a take on the Virgin Mojito, topped with lots of fresh mint and popcorn, which gives the drink a smooth buttery aroma. Rs 175
