Fringe benefits: Celebrity model Cara Delevingne’s look has a lot of sass

Anne Hathaway

Pixie perfect

This is the shortest of all modern hair trends and it’s for someone with delicate features. This crop is subtly sexy. You can use all kinds of products like wax, putty and gel to shape, spike and soften in all directions.

Pink

Sky is the limit

Punk princess Pink sports this look and to get this high-flying style, work with hair washed a day before. Using a gel, smooth down the side and pull up the top section of the hair. Blast the roots of the hair with a powerful dryer and set the style. Use your fingers to tease the quiff into place. Finally, to ensure your quiff does not flop, spray with a strong-hold hairspray.

Victoria Beckham

Jaw-skimming angular bob

The bob is arguably the most popular short hairstyle because it simply screams “effortless chic”. Be it in the office or out about in the city, it looks great anywhere anytime. It’s simple, it’s one-length and you can wear it with a long asymmetrical fringe. You should style this look with a glossy-surface finish by carefully using a straightening iron down the shaft of the hair and a silky serum or balm for the perfect gleaming finish. It is also easy to grow out, with none of the in-between growing pains.

Miley Cyrus

Bold buzz

The bold buzz is the shortest pixie cut. It’s the envy of anyone with long hair wanting to feel cool with no frizz and sweat. Hair tattoos can up the cool quotient of this hairstyle.

Scarlett Johansson

Tousled crop

This is a fuss-free style that has short top layers and bangs and is a longer version of the pixie cut. It’s a tousled out-of-bed look which has a lot of movement.

Why go short

Because it will make you stand out as a girl-on-the-go who knows how to keep her cool. It’s super versatile, it can be totally textured (in picture) to create shape and volume and it can add a lot of drama. All you need is a good pot of wax in your bag. Wax is your weapon and stay in control with a classic hairspray.

What to ask your hairstylist

You can ask for a highly-textured crop or you can ask for a long bob.

How to super-size you hair

1 Use a body-building shampoo and conditioner combo.
2 Add volumising styling product before you blow-dry your hair.
3 Create lift at the roots with a vented brush and a blast with the dryer. This technique will inject some oomph into your style.

Rihanna

Why try a fringe

Because a fringe can be worn in many ways if it is cut well. Fringes add sass or femininity to any cut. It’s a great accessory to any look and they are so versatile! They can be worn blunt, to the side or pinned into a quiff for hair height or feathered or asymmetric (in picture above).

POINTERS

1 Do resist the habit of running your hands through your hair, which only makes it oilier more quickly.

2 Dry shampoo is great for absorbing the oil between washes for the summer months. Apply, wait a few minutes and then brush well.

Brush every day to retain shine and start from the bottom always. Keeping your mane healthy and shiny is important.

4 Accessorise short hair with diamante bobby pins that look cute, and so do thin hair bands with diamantes and bows.

Colour: Short hair needs clever colour and technique to add depth and drama. The hot look for this season is ash blonde, which can be in many shades of pale. You can go for luscious gold and you will shine with confidence, honey strands for sex appeal, rich caramel for warm, hot stuff and cinnamon to bring out the super sexy spice girl. Tones of red, purple and burgundy make a style rich and warm. So take the plunge if you’re in the mood to feel the heat.

Flick trick: Keep your flick looking funky by using matte clay to define the ends. Work the clay between your fingers to warm the product, then gently pinch and tweak your flick until they are looking funky and foxy. Don’t weigh down your hair with too much product; do only wax the tips.
