Screaming fans, swooning girls and fragile barricades failing to contain both the crowd and their enthusiasm. Whenever heart-throb writer Durjoy Datta is in town, that’s the scene and this time was no different. “It’s good to be back in Calcutta,” Durjoy announced on the mic and his fans gathered at the Starmark outlet in South City Mall on January 21 responded by screaming louder.

In the city to launch The Boy with a Broken Heart, the second title in his two-part romance series, Durjoy tackled questions about love, life and, most importantly, his six-month-old daughter Rayna. “It is quite incredible to see how popular Rayna is among all my readers, who are clearly more interested in her than me,” laughed the bestselling romance writer who divides his time between Dubai and Mumbai.

From giving credit to wife Avantika for “doing 70 per cent of the parenting” to how “Rayna is a chill baby” for not going overboard with either tantrums or tears, Durjoy gave his readers a peek into his personal life.

Currently working on his next novel where he revisits Deb and Avantika — the protagonists of his first few books — Durjoy signed off with hopes for fans of Raghu. “I am happy with the response that The Boy with a Broken Heart has received as it took longer to write, but now I feel there’s potential for a sequel though I am not promising anything yet!” he added.
