More than 300 people had a heady evening at The Saturday Club as city-based Sufi band Jannat filled the air with soulful strains. Guests hummed and sang along to a playlist featuring Bolly hits and even a couple of originals at Friday at Saturday — an evening of Sufi with Jannat Sufi Band, in association with t2 on November 24. Apt for the nippy weather were favourites like Chicken Malai Kebabs and Biryani that kept the audience happy.

Sufi band Jannat performed favourites such as Arziyan, Khwaja mere khwaja, Allah ke bande and Teri deewani. Two originals on their songlist were Kabeera and Putli. “The crowd was lively and was cheering and clapping us on, which helped us perform even better. What makes a performance memorable is if a performer and their audience have the same connect, which we felt here. Our band started this journey in 2005 and we haven’t stopped since,” said vocalist Chote Miya (left).
Ratan Marothia was seen making the most of the performance as he got off his seat and wove his way to the front while swaying to the music. “Everyone was enjoying the music from their tables but I was the first to go up to the front of the stage and start dancing,” said the hotelier after requesting the band to sing his favourite — Aye meri zohra jabeen.
