Wipro staff to get a 7% hike in salary

Wipro, the country's third largest IT services company, today announced an average 7 per cent increase in salary for its employees.

Mumbai, June 3: Wipro, the country's third largest IT services company, today announced an average 7 per cent increase in salary for its employees.

The hike is broadly in line with that announced by its peers such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

"In line with industry standards, Wipro has announced a salary hike for eligible employees, effective June 1. The average salary hike will be 7 per cent for offshore employees," Wipro global head (human resources) Saurabh Govil said in a statement, adding that onsite employees will get a hike of 2 per cent.

While high performers have been rewarded with substantially higher increases in their compensation, the company has also raised the fixed pay component in employee salaries at junior and mid-management levels.

The IT services business of Wipro had a headcount of over 1.58 lakh as on March 31, 2015.

Earlier, Infosys had announced pay hikes in the range of 6.5-9 per cent to employees for 2015-16. For the onsite employees the increase was 2 per cent.

The increases were effective from April 1 and top performers got an average increment of 9 per cent.

On the other hand, TCS, the country's largest IT services company, has handed out average salary hikes of about 8 per cent for its offshore employees and 2 per cent for onsite employees.

Shares of Wipro today ended marginally lower at Rs 545.50 on the BSE.

Report card

Wipro's fourth-quarter net profit stood at Rs 2,270 crore, which is a growth of 2 per cent over the same period of last year.

The company's performance came on the back of a 4 per cent increase in total revenue at Rs 12,140 crore in the said quarter.

Wipro has forecast that revenues from its IT services business will be in the range of $1.76-1.79 billion for the quarter ending June 30.
