New Delhi, March 4 :     The department of telecommunications (DoT) will continue to accept licence fee dues of private telecom operators despite the expiry of the February 28 deadline. ?We will not extend the deadline. A number of operators approached us on the last day (February 28) and expressed their willingness to pay their dues. We have given them the time they wanted for depositing the amount,?? DoT secretary Anil Kumar said here today. Kumar told a conference on wireless partnering, organised by CII, that private operators should rather pay up the licence fees than blame DoT for their problems. Meanwhile, at a Delhi high court hearing of the operators? case against DoT, the counsel for the department said it would not initiate action against private telecom operators if they promised to pay 20 per cent of their licence fee by March 31. ?If the telecom operators pay by March 31 without raising any further issue, the government can consider their viewpoint,?? DoT counsel R.N. Trivedi told the court.
