“Tata Steel has a vibrant energetic workforce and has registered best ever performance despite Covid situations. We have seen expansion in Jamshedpur and there are already investments in downstream business."

"At present Tata Steel is producing a total of 20 million tonnes (mt) of steel annually. This production capacity will increase to 40 million tonnes during this decade. Apart from this, a target has been set to increase production in other group companies,” Chandrasekaran said.

He complimented Tata Steel for rising to the occasion on “multiple fronts” during the global lockdown.

“Last couple of years have been extremely difficult for everyone, However the way Tata Group has come through with support of all stakeholders has been extremely satisfying.”

He praised Tata Steel for supplying medical oxygen when the country needed it the most.

Chandrasekaran on Wednesday initiated the first equipment trial for the upcoming cold rolling mill and pellet plant projects at the Tata Steel facility at Kalinganagar in Odisha through the digital interface, a company statement said. This signifies the completion of a major milestone for the Kalinganagar expansion project from 3mt to 8mt per annum, it said.
