Mumbai, Feb. 2: Real estate developer Godrej Properties today made key changes in its leadership by elevating Pirojsha Godrej, son of group chairman Adi Godrej, as its executive chairman.

Adi Godrej, who stepped down from the chairman's post, will now assume charge as the chairman emeritus.

Pirojsha, 35, is currently the managing director and CEO of the company. He joined Godrej Properties in 2004 and has been the MD and CEO since 2012. He will take over as the executive chairman from April.

The appointment of Pirojsha comes a day after another group firm - Godrej Consumer Products - announced that he has been appointed as an additional director with effect from April 1. While he will be a non-executive and non-independent director in Godrej Consumer Products, as he is part of the promoter group, Pirojsha will join sisters Tanya Dubash, non-executive director, and Nisaba Godrej, executive director, on the board.

Pirojsha holds a Bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's degree in international affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at the Columbia University and an MBA from the Columbia Business School.

In the years that he has led the company, Godrej Properties has been one of the fastest-growing real estate developers in India and for the first time in 2015-16, emerged as the country's largest publicly-listed real estate developer by sales.

Godrej Properties said executive director Mohit Malhotra would succeed Pirojsha. Malhotra had joined Godrej Properties in 2010. He first headed business development and has since taken on larger leadership responsibilities. He was appointed as an executive director in 2015.

Adi Godrej said, "Pirojsha, Mohit and the Godrej Properties' team have delivered tremendous results in a difficult market environment and I'm sure will lead the company to new heights."
