Hyderabad, April 3:
K.V. Vishnu Raju, grandson of B.V. Raju?former promoter of Raasi Cement?has acquired 20 per cent stake in the 600 tonnes per day medium-sized cement plant, Shez, in Nalgonda.
The Rs 35-crore plant, owned by Syed Bhadruddin Shez, which went public in 1993, is almost ready for commissioning.
Vishnu Raju has bought the 20 per cent stake in the open market at Rs 5 per share. According to the takeover code, Raju will have to make an open offer. The Rajus plan to change the name of the cement company to Anjani Portland Corporation and the brand name to Anjani.
B.V. Raju?s interests in cement had apparently taken a backseat after the Sri Vishnu issue got locked up in court. While India Cements Ltd had taken over Raasi Cement, Raju had hoped to keep under his fold the 100 per cent subsidiary of Raasi, Sri Vishnu. However, while Raju may be down, he is not out, said sources. They added that Vishnu Raju?s bid has the blessings of his grandfather. With the inclusion of the Anjani brand, the capacity of B.V. Raju?s cement empire will be 1.02 million tonnes per annum.
