New Delhi, April 14: Coca-Cola plans to launch Pocket Maaza, a tetra pack mango drink, in Calcutta before introducing it in the other parts of the country.

“Coca-Cola will launch its first tetra pack offering nationally after it tests the waters in Calcutta,” industry sources said. The product will be a variant of its popular Maaza bottle drink.

Analysts said some 90 per cent of the fruit juices sold in the country were consumed outside home. And the 200ml Pocket Maaza will be positioned as an “on the go” offering.

Coca-Cola had bought the Maaza brand from Ramesh Chauhan.

Maaza is sold in quarter-litre glass and one-litre PET bottles. It is the highest selling juice-based brand in India accounting for 37 per cent of sales.

Mango drinks are the most popular among packaged drinks, industry analysts said.

Apart from Maaza, Coke also sells Minute Maid, an orange flavoured fruit-based drink.

The branded fruit juice market in India is estimated to be worth Rs 500 crore and is growing at the rate of 30 per cent.
