Grasim net jumps 37%

Grasim Industries' March-quarter net profit jumped 37.38 per cent to Rs 696.09 crore from Rs 506.68 crore a year ago, helped by a growth in its all three business divisions - viscose staple fibre (VSF), chemicals and cement.

Calcutta, May 7: Grasim Industries' March-quarter net profit jumped 37.38 per cent to Rs 696.09 crore from Rs 506.68 crore a year ago, helped by a growth in its all three business divisions - viscose staple fibre (VSF), chemicals and cement.

The net income from operation in the period grew 13.42 per cent to Rs 10,001.26 crore.

The company has recorded an exceptional item of Rs 27.85 crore towards provisions made on impairment of assets of Birla Lao Pulp and Plantations, a joint venture company.

For the full year, consolidated revenue rose 12 per cent to Rs 36,637 crore. Net profit was Rs 2,359.15 crore against Rs 1,743.80 crore a year ago.

Grasim has estimated a total capital expenditure of Rs 2,250 crore in 2016-17 across all business verticals. The company's board has recommended a dividend of Rs 22.5 per share. Total outgo on this account is Rs 221 crore (inclusive of corporate tax and dividend).

During the quarter, the revenue from VSF rose 23 per cent to Rs 1,729 crore. Revenue from chemicals more than doubled at Rs 957 crore compared with Rs 429 crore a year ago, while that from the cement business was Rs 6,920 crore against Rs 6,595 crore.
