Spectrum auction delayed

New Delhi, Aug. 29: Heeding the industry's demand for starting the auction of spectrum on an auspicious date, the government has deferred the mega sale of airwaves by two days to October 1. The revised notice by the department of telecom inviting application for the auction stated October 1 as the launch date. According to the earlier schedule, the auction was scheduled to start from September 29, which falls during the "shradh" period, which is considered inauspicious to start any new work.

Tax evasion

New Delhi, Aug. 29: As part of its "naming and shaming" policy to curb tax evasion, the income tax department may soon publish names of even those taxpayers who have a "chronic" default of Rs 1 crore and above.

Adani mine

Melbourne, Aug. 29: Mining giant Adani's plan to build one of the world's largest coal mines in Australia cleared another legal hurdletoday after a top court dismissed an environmental group's plea to overturn the government's approval to the controversy-hit $21.7-billion project.

Mallya fault

New Delhi, Aug. 29: A consortium of banks, including the SBI, today told the Supreme Court that beleaguered businessman Vijay Mallya had deliberately not made full disclosure of his assets, including the $40 million which he received from a British company in February.

Renuka debt

New Delhi, Aug. 29: Renuka Sugars today said its creditors had approved a debt restructuring plan of its Brazilian subsidiary Renuka do Brasil (RdB), which would have to sell a plant for the settlement of dues.

Toyota plan

Yokohama, Aug. 29: Amid uncertainties over regulatory issues regarding diesel vehicles in India because of pollution concerns, Japanese auto major Toyota Motor Corporation is not rushing in to bring more models and is taking it only "step by step", Hiroyuki Fukui, the company's CEO of Asia, Middle East & North Africa, said.
