A record number of applicants turned up at the district-level job-cum-guidance fairs held at Miller School on Beer Chand Patel Path and at the sub-regional employment exchange near Income Tax roundabout on Friday.

As many as 5,330 people out of 22,662 applicants got jobs at the event organised by the labour resources department, where 46 companies, including some from Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Himachal Pradesh, had put up stalls.

Upendra Lal, 27, holding an MCA from AN College and pursuing PhD in computer science from Magadh University, Bodhgaya, said: “I could apply at just one stall for the post of a software engineer. Since there are just four positions, I hope I would be able to make it.”

Shikha Kumari, a postgraduate in applied microbiology and biotechnology from Banasthali, could not find any job.

She said: “I got one at Navbharat Fertilizers Limited, Hyderabad, and that for agriculture officers. But the post was not for women. I was ready to move out of Bihar but could not even apply for a job.”

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi inaugurated the fair at Miller School.
