Youths get creative with bugs

The education department of Patna Women's College has extended the duration of the bachelor of education course from a year to two from the latest academic session. Application forms have been uploaded on the institution's official site, along with the requisite information necessary for the students.

The education department of Patna Women's College has extended the duration of the bachelor of education course from a year to two from the latest academic session. Application forms have been uploaded on the institution's official site, along with the requisite information necessary for the students.

The entrance test will be conducted on May 30.

Ritika Priya, an applicant for BEd, said: "I completed my graduation from Patna Women's College this year and want to pursue BEd from here. I am happy the course duration has been extended. Now, we can learn more and get proper training in the teaching field."

Upasana Singh, the head of department, education, said: "The students will not be burdened with theoretical and practical knowledge within a year. Obviously, a two-year course will be beneficial for the students. A latest curricular from the National Council for Teacher Education has also emphasised the need for BEd students to gain an on-field experience. Earlier, students only got 40 days for training. Now, they can get four months in training to gain more exposure."

Fun with insects

St Xavier's College and St Xavier's College of Management and Technology celebrated Earth Day on April 21 with a national seminar on Knowledge society for sustainable development. Principal Father T. Nishant flagged off a battery-operated e-rickshaw. It would ferry students to and from Digha More to the college canteen.

The celebrations continued for two more days with an economics quiz organised on April 22. She also sensitised the students towards making eco-friendly choices.

Faculty members Archana Jha and Mudita Sodder organised a group competition, Invent your own imaginary insect, on the final day. The entire campus transformed into a humming centre of activity with 14 teams with 10 students each letting their creativity flow. The students used old newspapers, pins and waste material to creatively drape a member in the team as a new insect.

The team of Insect Stinger, led by Ritika of bachelor of computer applications department, bagged the first prize, followed by Insect Khoonka Rakshak led by Amarjeet (bachelor of computer applications) and Insect Plighter led by Atul (BCom).

Rajeev, one of the participants, said: "I enjoyed creating a new insect. The grey cells got into action and brought out the best in our group. It was great fun."

B-school award

Cimage College in the city has received the Assocham award for the best B-School in the country, human resource. Institution director Neeraj Agrawal said on April 24: "The Assocham award has been given jointly by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, the Union human resource development ministry and the Association of Indian Universities. This award is a result of the hard work put in by students, faculty members and employees of the college."

One of the criteria in the award is innovation in teaching. Agrawal said: "Recently, IIT-Delhi organised an Android app development workshop, in collaboration with our college. Our students came second in the workshop. This year has been very fruitful till now, as well, because several of our students have been placed with companies such as TCS, Wipro, Vodafone and IndiGo."

Graphics tips

Central University of South Bihar's Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers students visited Kendriya Vidyalaya on Bailey Road last Saturday for its outreach programme.

The team comprised head of department, computer science, R. Rajesh and students Ashish Ranjan, Smriti Priyadarshini and Priyanka Kumari. During a workshop for the Kendriya Vidyalaya students, the team explained to the children the basics of graphics programming in C and C++.

Rajesh said: "The workshop was the first in the series. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers branch of Central University of South Bihar shall conduct workshops in other institutions soon."
