A traffic constable allegedly thrashed a student of a Delhi-based hotel management institute near Hartali Mor on Bailey Road on Friday.

Satyam Kumar, 19, suffered injuries on his head and was subsequently admitted to Gardiner Road hospital located near the Income Tax roundabout.

He was released from the hospital after first aid.

Satyam, a resident of East Lohanipur in the state capital, had to bear the brunt of traffic constable Mukesh Kumar for driving his motorbike without wearing a helmet.

The constable signalled him to stop his vehicle but Satyam tried to flee.

Agitated by this act of the youth, the constable dragged him and allegedly thrashed him.

He suffered injuries to the head in the process and was admitted to the hospital by fellow constables deployed at the nearby traffic post.

"No case has been lodged," an official posted at the traffic police station said.

The official said the question of disciplinary action against the cop didn't arise as Satyam didn't lodge any formal complaint.

"Had Satyam made any complaint, we would have initiated action against the cop," said a deputy superintendent of police-rank officer.

The incident took place when Satyam had gone to meet his relative at Punaichak.

This is not the first occasion when such an incident has been reported.

At least two similar incidents were reported in which bikers were beaten up by traffic cops.

As cases had been lodged in those incidents, the erring police personnel had been put under suspension at that time.
