A click of the mouse would soon get residents information on how to maintain a healthy heart.
UK-based cardiologist Rajay Narain, who has his roots in Patna, has decided to launch a website to attend to heart problems. The website would advise people on the kind of diet or exercise routine they need to follow to keep their hearts in good shape.
Narain, who works at St George’s Hospital, UK, will launch the website in December. Initially, it would provide information on how to control cholesterol level, how to maintain weight and blood pressure among other things. Later, people would be able to chat with Narain and his team online and ask them questions on heart-related problems.
Speaking to The Telegraph over phone from London, Narain said: “It will be launched in the first week of December.”
The 35-year-old cardiologist, along with his team, will launch the website from Patna. He said: “People will be able to read about precautions they need to take to have a healthy heart and healthy life. Advice on how to stop smoking and lifestyle management would also be available on the website. The information provided on the site will be related to blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, diet, exercise and the best ways to manage health problems. The residents can also find information on the kind of food that helps keep the heart in a good shape and what deteriorates its condition.”
He promised that the online consultation facility would be available in due course. “When we have more resources, we will launch the online consultation facility too. According to our plan, we will try to answer queries within 24 hours,” he added.
The lack of awareness about heart-related ailments among the people of Bihar was the inspiration of the young doctor in launching the website.
Narain said: “I conducted a health camp in Patna last year. There, I came across at least 353 people, most of whom were diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate attention and long-term follow up. The health camp made me think about such an initiative.”
He said not many in Bihar are aware about the different kind of heart problems and the steps they need to take to prevent them.
“Very few people in the state are aware that they need to undergo tests like ECG (echocardiography) and check their cholesterol and blood pressure levels from time to time. This can help keep tabs on their heart conditions. Through the website, I want to reach those who are at a high risk of developing cardiac ailments and those who have already developed heart complications and need medical consultation from time to time. I am hopeful that the people of Bihar will benefit from my website,” he said.
Narain also plans to introduce a heart screening programme in the state from December.
