Patna, Aug. 3: The song-and-dance routine to celebrate the holy month continued today with a Saawan meet organised by the Forest Officers’ Wives Association, Patna.
The members of the association, who took part in the events planned for them, came dressed in traditional costumes and sang folk songs at the meet organised at the guesthouse at Patna zoo.
The participants — wives of forest officers — seemed to live up to the profession of their husbands as they adopted green as their theme. Even swings — Saawan jhoola — at the guesthouse were covered with green leaves for the Saawan celebrations.
“Saawan is the time to celebrate the colours of nature and our celebrations were enhanced in the natural atmosphere and soothing silence of the zoo. It also made for a nice get-together for the association members,” said Pratima Shukla, the secretary of Forest Officers’ Wives Association.
The meet that started around 11am today went on for three hours with several events, including solo and group dance competitions and games, planned for the participants — 20 women, who came accompanied by their children.
“I am glad that I came here today. Not only did I enjoy the various events but I also learnt about the cultural and traditional significance of Saawan. The best thing that I liked about the celebration is the venue — the Patna zoo. There is greenery all around and it is very quiet too,” said Simran, a teenager while sitting on the swing.
Divya Kumari, the wife of Patna zoo director Abhay Kumar, was selected Saawan Queen through voting by the members. “I am happy to see all my friends toge- ther on this occasion. I believe that in this modern times, such events help link us with our culture and tradition,” said Divya.
“Everyone had a wonderful time and we will make sure that such celebrations are held with the same energy in future too,” said Shajida Khan, the president of the association.
