Patna, Oct. 19: Residents of Akodi Gola and its adjoining areas laid a siege to Indrapuri police station in Rohtas district for more than six hours today in protest against the murder of a woman late on Tuesday evening.
Rukmini Kunwar, 60, was kidnapped and subsequently killed by criminals when she was returning home after completing her work at Indrapuri police station where she was employed as a cook. The victim’s body was found near the canal early this morning.
As the news of Rukmini’s murder spread, a large number of people gathered outside the police station and shouted slogans against police administration. They blamed the police for the murder of the woman, who used to prepare food for the cops posted at the station. A section of the agitators blocked the Rajpur-Dehri Road and disrupted vehicular movement since morning. When the police tried to lift the blockade, the mob turned violent and started pelting stones. As a result, the police had to beat a retreat from the spot.
Rohtas superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said two persons identified, as Chunna Mahto and Mahendra Dom, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The police recovered blood-stained clothes from Chunna’s possession, who is suspected to be involved in the murder, he said. The SP said the murderers had slit the victim’s throat and threw her body near the canal. “The body had stab wounds in the neck,” he said. The two suspects were arrested from the spot.
