Free Wi-fi will soon be available at Mauryalok Complex.
Patna mayor Afzal Imam on Tuesday said the civic body was considering among three cellular service providers to install the equipment for the connection. Imam said the Wi-fi facility will start at the commercial hub within a month.
"We are already talking to three firms that have shown interest in installing the facility at Mauryalok complex," said Imam. "A formal proposal will be charted in the next empowered standing committee meeting. The facility will benefit lots of people who come to Mauryalok daily.
The mayor added that the service will be provided free of cost to begin with.
Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will also open ward offices in each of the 72 wards to make life easier for residents when they fulfil civic responsibilities such as payment of holding tax, birth and death registration and registration of complaints. The offices will be digitised and the decision was taken in a PMC meeting on Tuesday.
"The space for the ward offices will be taken on rent at Rs 7,000 per month," said Imam. "We will get computers and the operators will be on payroll. The standing committee approved a proposal in this regard today (Tuesday) and it would be placed in the PMC board meeting for final approval."
The civic body has also started setting up drinking water kiosks called Pyaoos in the city.
"The last proposal for setting up Pyaoos had mentioned places such as Congress Maidan, Gardanibagh and Rajendra Nagar where very few people go in the afternoon hours," said Imam. "I have asked the officials to come up with a fresh proposal to set up Pyaoos, which will include places that witness frequent movement of people."
The empowered standing committee also approved a proposal to install close circuit television cameras at PMC's dumping yard located at Ramachak-Bairiya village on Patna- Gaya Road.
The cameras will be installed to keep a tab on proper garbage disposal because the residents keep complaining about improper dumping of waste.
Instructions were also given to officials to complete cleaning the drains before the onset of monsoon to avoid waterlogging in the city.
