Patna: Kotwali police on Wednesday night arrested two youths who were under the influence of alcohol, in two separated incidents on Patna Junction. The youths had consumed the liquor at wedding parties.
In the first case, Kotwali police arrested Jyotimay Singh from Patna Junction area on Wednesday night.
Kotwali police station house officer (SHO) Rama Shankar Singh said: "Kotwali police were patrolling the Patna Junction area when they spotted a youth who was found to be in an inebriated condition."
Jyotimay Singh had come to Patna Junction for a paan (betel leaf) with some of his friends after attending a wedding in the Chiryatand bridge area. He was accompanied by his friends.
On seeing the police patrol team, Jyotimay's friends managed to escape but he was caught by the police.
The police claimed that Jyotimay, a resident of Kankerbagh area of the city, told police that some of his friends had offered him the drink at the wedding function. Jyotimay, who is pursuing engineering from the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology ( NSIT) in Bihta, is a civil engineer's son. A breathalyser test showed he had 86 milligrams per 100ml alcohol content in his body.
In another incident, a Patna police patrolling team arrested Ranjan Kumar Keshri, who too was under the influence of liquor.
Keshri a resident of Masaurhi, had arrived in Patna to attend a wedding feast.
After the wedding, he was retuning back to Masaurhi when Patna police nabbed him from Kotwali police station area. Kotwali police SHO Singh said: "The two have been arrested and sent to jail."
Sources said that despite police action and any number of drives against liquor smugglers, the banned drink still makes it to Patna through various routes. The police are keeping a tab on wedding functions, as many liquor smugglers supply liquor to wedding functions during these occasions.
