Patna: The combative mood among the lawmakers reflected in the Council on Tuesday as the Treasury and Opposition benches exchanged barbs in the first half.
As soon as Question Hour commenced, Congress MLC Dilip Choudhary moved an adjournment motion demanding equal pay for equal work for schoolteachers. He got support from Kedar Pandey of the CPI, who cited the Patna High Court directive on the issue.
After this, Subodh Rai of the RJD demanded an adjournment, alleging irregularities in toilet construction in almost all districts. He claimed that the name of a close relative of chief minister Nitish Kumar had cropped up in the scam in Patna district.
He also alleged that only small fry were being nabbed in the scam and those with connections were being shielded.
Council deputy chairman Harun Rashid informed the Opposition members that the House had turned down their motion. While order was being restored in the House, BJP MLC Rajneesh Kumar came up with a point of order.
Rajneesh raised the statement by RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Monday threatening to "skin" Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Centre downgraded his father Lalu Prasad's security cover.
At this, RJD members raised questions about the statement of BJP Bihar unit that people should chop fingers and hands raised at the Prime Minister.
Rai asked Rajneesh to first clarify his stand on the statement given by his party president.
Former chief minister Rabri Devi too joined the chorus and was heard demanding to know what the BJP had to say about the statement of its state unit president.
The barbs between the ruling and Opposition members continued during throughout Question Hour while discussions were taking place on different issues raised by the members.
The Opposition members became even more vocal during Zero Hour and continued raising slogans in support of their demands while members were raising issues.
