From boats to cycles, the BJP activists are going innovative for attending the Hunkar Rally in Patna on Sunday.

The mother of all innovations would be the over 200 supporters walking all the way to Patna from Kesariya and Dhaka Assembly seats in East Champaran. Christened “NaMo Bam”, they will reach the city on Sunday on foot carrying BJP flags and banners.

The “NaMo Bam” concept is an inspiration from “Dak Bam” — the Shiva devotees who walk around 90km with Ganga water from Sultanganj to Deoghar in Jharkhand. They also carry kanwars on their shoulders. The BJP MLA from Motihari, Pramod Kumar, said: “More than 200 supporters called ‘NaMo Bam’ will reach Patna from Kesariya and Dhaka Assembly segments.” He claimed that the party workers had made all the arrangements because senior leaders had been forbidden from taking such innovative steps. Kesariya, a small town in East Champaran, is 130km northwest of Patna. Dhaka in East Champaran is 185km north of the state capital.

Sachindra Singh represents Kesariya Assembly. Pawan Jaisawal, an Independent MLA supporting the JD(U) government, represents Dhaka. Some BJP leaders would sail across the Ganga to hear the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi — the star speaker of the rally.

Mahnar BJP MLA Dr Achyuatanand’s supporters have booked 100 boats. They would set sail at Mahnar and reach Anta Ghat in Patna crossing the Ganga in three to four hours. Similarly, the followers of the BJP’s Sonepur MLA, Vinay Singh, have hired 100 boats. They will sail to Patna (Anta Ghat) from Pahleja Ghat in Sonepur.

Another 100 BJP workers would reach Patna riding cycles from Motihari, around 160km from the city.

The party has launched a massive campaign to mobilise support for the rally to be addressed by Narendra Modi. On Thursday, the SC Morcha president of the party Sanjay took out a cycle rally from the BJP party office at Beer Chand Patel Path to Sampatchak. Pedalling a distance of more than 10km, the cyclists canvassed for the Hunkar rally.

While the BJP activists are busy garnering support for the rally, Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said his officers were in regular touch with their Gujarat counterparts in connection with the security arrangements for the rally to be addressed by the chief minister of the western state.
