Patna: Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the three-day Bihar Divas celebrations on March 22 at Gandhi Maidan.

This will be Naidu's first visit to Patna after becoming the Vice-President of India.

The Vice-President will stay at Gandhi Maidan for one-and-a-half hours from 4.30pm.

Apart from Naidu, Governor Satya Pal Malik, chief minister Nitish Kumar, education minister Krishnanandan Prasad Verma and other ministers will be at the dais.

As this year's theme of Bihar Divas is "Champaran Satyagrah: Centenary Year", it will also mark the closing ceremony of the Champaran Satyagrah. The main stage will have imprints of Gandhi's movement.

The backdrop of the main stage will have images of Bapu's statue at Gandhi Maidan on one side and Gandhi Dandi march on the other side. It will have images of Bapu's struggle against indigo plantation in Bihar.

The backdrop will be prepared on terracotta.

The celebrations mark the day when the British carved out Bihar from the Bengal Presidency on March 22, 1912, and since 2011 the state has been celebrating Bihar Divas every year on a grand scale.

Bihar education project council director Sanjay Kumar Singh said: "Apart from the main stage the entire venue will have sketches of Champaran Satyagrah. There will be more than 50 stalls, which would be set up by various government departments at Gandhi Maidan."

Most of the stalls at the venue will have activities linked to the Mahatma.

The education department like previous years has arranged several cultural activities for the Divas, which will be held at Gandhi Maidan and SK Memorial Hall.

At Gandhi Maidan, on the evening of March 22, rock band Indian Ocean will perform. The band has especially curated an event on Gandhi.

On the same day, Punjabi folk singer Lakhwinder Wadali will entertain the audience at SK Memorial Hall. On the second day Sufi singer Harshdeep Kaur will perform at the Maidan.

On March 24, classical singer Shubha Mudgal will perform. Apart from performances of renowned artists there will be a laser show at Gandhi Maidan on all the three days.
