Bhagalpur, Nov. 18: RJD Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav today trained guns on his party chief without naming him amid ending his fast-unto-death in protest against police’s dilly-dally approach in arresting a doctor accused of molestation.
The MP also came down heavily on doctors and the state government for their irresponsible attitude towards their duties and society. A mob of more than 3,000 people, mostly villagers, assembled at Town Hall premises today.
Without naming RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Pappu said party leaders, particularly the RJD MP from Banka, are yet to open their mouths over the incident. “Has the party chief gagged them?” he asked.
The family members of the victim said they would file a writ in Patna High Court to seek justice. “Since we have lost faith in the local court and the administration, we have no option but to knock the door of the high court,” said the husband of the victim.
Lambasting the doctors for their irresponsible attitude, he said: “They have started calling me atyachari but recently Mumbai High Court had asked a doctor to stop torture. Why don’t doctors provide patients with receipts after taking fees? This is because if they start giving the receipts, they would come under the scanner of the income tax department.”
He added: “Now the administration is trying to hand over the case to the CID to save the accused. In 99 per cent of CID cases in Bihar, victims do not get justice.”
“I don’t know what is the utility of the maha gathbandhan (grand alliance) if parties, including the ruling JDU, do not know how to respect women. All of them have remained mute spectators in the episode,” he alleged.
Pappu said his fight would go on till the system was rectified. “My wife and Congress MP from Supaul, Ranjita Ranjan, would join the villagers tomorrow (Wednesday) in their protest,” he said.
More than 100 followers of Pappu from different parts of Kosi region had joined his fast-unto-death and organised a satyagrahas demanding the arrest of Dr Mrityunjay Kumar, the accused.
