Six officials of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, including acting vice-chancellor (VC) Bimal Kumar, have come under the vigilance scanner because of grant of affiliation to 22 colleges that do not have required infrastructure.

In 2012, Ashok Choudhary and Sudhir Ojha filed a case against then vice-chancellor Bimal Kumar, registrar A.P. Mishra, pension officer Gagandev Rai, law officer Vijay Kumar Jaiswal, junior law officer Ravendra Kumar Ojha and inspector of colleges Rajendra Mahto.

Superintendent of police (vigilance) Parwaiz Akhtar, said showcause notices have been slapped on the university officials for not replying to their queries. A team led by inspector S.K. Tiwary and Ranjan Kumar met registrar A.P. Mishra on January 8, 2013, and sought documents related to grant of affiliation to the 22 colleges. Mishra said he had handed over affiliation documents to the vigilance team.

Ashok and Sudhir alleged that the VC and the members of the affiliation committee granted affiliation to 22 colleges, violating guidelines.

Ashok and Sudhir alleged that the institutes were provided affiliation despite lack of infrastructure, building, land, equipment, library and laboratory. The team inspected Ujwal Kumar Mishra Foundation College, Hajipur, Chourasia Raj Kishore College, Hajipur, Rajdev Rai Degree College, Bhagwapur, Hajipur, Rai Virendra Singh College, Hajipur, and Rajdev Rai Lal Munni Degree College, Chehrakalan, Vaishali.

The Bihar University Service Teachers’ Association general secretary Arun Kumar, has requested stern action from the chief minister against the errant officers involved.
