Varsity meet Demand Arrest Store licences

Varsity meet

Patna: The academic council of Patna University met on Saturday and decided to conduct entrance examinations for all postgraduate programmes.

University vice-chancellor Y.C. Simhadri and pro-vice-chancellor R.K. Verma chaired the meeting. The five deans of the varsity attended it. Previously, postgraduate applicants were selected on the basis of their graduation results. The new admission procedure will come into effect from the next academic session (2016-17). The council also passed a resolution to set up three new departments - biodiversity and ecological studies and sustainable development, studies on securities and investigation, and department of food safety and quality.

Demand

Patna: BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday asked the state government to immediately pay compensation to people whose lands had been acquired for the Ganga driveway.

Arrest

Patna: Police on Saturday caught Karmu, the main accused in the murder of jeweller Ravikant. Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj confirmed the arrest. The jeweller was shot dead in Patna on July 17 after he refused to pay extortion money.

Store licences

Patna: The drug control administration on Saturday cancelled the licences of six medical stores, including Magadh Distributor (Govind Mitra Road), Rathi Laboratory (Pataliputra), Vikas Medical (Agamkuan) and New Chora Medical (Station Road). These stores are among the 72 shops on which teams had conducted raids earlier.
