Muzaffarpur, Aug. 5: Former acting vice-chancellor (VC) of Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, Rajendra Prasad Mishra has come under the scanner for decisions he took during his five-month tenure.

The new VC, Bimal Kumar, who took charge last Tuesday, asked the pro-VC, Padmasha Jha, to probe as to why bachelors course Part I and Part II answer scripts were evaluated without coding. Rajendra has been under criticism for allowing such evaluation. This has created ripples in the academic and administrative circles of the university.

The university had assigned the task of evaluating thousands of answer scripts without coding after many decades. This has fuelled speculations about ulterior motives of the university authorities. Moreover, truckloads of answer scripts of degree course Part III seized by the University police station on Tuesday night has raised eyebrows.

Bimal had asked examination controller A.K. Singh not to send the copies to other universities for evaluation. The examination department, under the cover of darkness, was allegedly engaged in sending truckloads of Part III answer scripts to BN Mandal University, Saharsa, for evaluation.

Padmasha told The Telegraph that the answer books seized from the trucks did not bear codes and were being sent to BN Mandal University for evaluation stealthily.

Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University had already evaluated Part I and II answer books of bachelor degree courses despite uproar by representatives of the teachers’ organisation and senate members.

Meanwhile, Bimal has taken strong exception of the alleged misdeeds of the examination department and served a showcause notice on A.K. Singh. “Despite my reservation and restriction not to send the copies outside for evaluation without coding, the answer books were seized by the University police at midnight. This is shocking,” Bimal told Padmasha.

Senator Arun Kumar Singh has demanded action against Rajendra, who overlooked regulations of adhering to coding of answer books before evaluation outside the varsity.
