When Cupid strikes, couples care little for customs.

Many lovebirds in the city have defied traditions and have decided to tie the nuptial knot this Valentine's Day. For them it's the day that matters and not the stars.

Gaurav Agrawal (27), a businessman, would tie the nuptial knot with Nupur Rungta (24) this Valentine's Day. Both Gaurav and Nupur are excited that they are going to become life partners on such a special day.

Not only them, many couples have decided to defy age-old customs of finding a suitable date to get hitched based on astronomy and planetary positions.

'Once our marriage day was finalised on February 14, Gaurav and I were very excited. We are very happy that we would tie the knot on Valentine's Day. Our marriage anniversary would become special every year because of this,' said Nupur, a graduate from Bhawanipur Education Society College, Calcutta.

Gaurav also looked excited about his marriage being scheduled on Valentine's Day. 'How many couples get the privilege of getting married on this day? I am extremely lucky,' said Gaurav, who happens to be from a renowned Marwari family in the city.

Like Gaurav and Nupur, Abhishek Srivastava (31) and Shalini (27) are also getting married on Valentine's Day. The couple have already tied the knot following traditional customs. However, on Valentine's Day, they would go for a court marriage.

'We would get married for the second time but this time on Valentine's Day. Actually, it was Shalini who gave me the idea. Ours is an arranged marriage but we are totally in love. So, I quickly gave my nod when Shalini told me about this. Our families are very excited about the court marriage on the special day,' said Abhishek, a private bank employee.

Manish Upadhayay, a clerk at a marriage court, said seven couples would tie the knot on Valentine's Day. 'Every year, we get many requests from couples that they would want to get married on this day,' said Upadhayay.
