Patna: Police have dismissed two senior office-bearers of the state police association from service on charges of consuming liquor and creating nuisance.

The duo, both of constable-rank, are Bihar Police Men's Association (BPMA) president Nirmal Kumar Singh and association general secretary Shamsher Khan. Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj issued a directive to this effect.

In May this year, Singh and Khan were arrested on charges of allegedly violating the liquor ban. Both were arrested from New Police Lines on the directive of Patna SSP Maharaaj, who received complaints that the duo were creating nuisance under the influence of alcohol.

When police reached the spot to nab the duo, the two started abusing police officers and created a nuisance on the premises.

Reinforcements were immediately called in and the two taken into custody.

The breathalyser test showed had shown that Singh had 150.9mg per 100ml alcohol content in his blood and Khan 179.6 mg per 100ml. Later, a case was lodged against them under relevant sections of the Excise and Prohibition Act, 2016, and two were suspended. They are presently out on bail.

"The two were dismissed from service based on the findings of the police which proved that the two cops were under the influence of alcohol," said Patna (central) inspector-general of police N.H. Khan.

"As per the Excise and Prohibition Act, 2016, all senior police officers have been informed that there will be no relaxation to anyone on the prohibition act."

Sources said the arrest, suspension and subsequent dismissal of the two office-bearers of the Police Men's Association was not an easy task, but the Patna police had clear-cut instructions from the home department to take strict action in this connection.

Under the Bihar's prohibition law, consuming alcohol can attract 10 years' jail to life imprisonment.

The Nitish Kumar government had on April 5, 2016, enforced total prohibition in the state. The stringent law against alcohol has provision for dismissal of guilty government employee from service.
