Patna: Patna Training College and Women's Training College - the two institutions of Patna University imparting BEd teaching - have received recognition for running BEd teaching from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

The university got the letter on Monday from the NCTE - the highest body for teachers' education in the country.

The two institutions were without the NCTE recognition since last year. During inspection in 2017, the NCTE team had found several anomalies at the Patna Training College and Women's Training College based on which their affiliation for the 2018-20 academic session was de-recognised. The NCTE team had asked the PU administration to carry out teachers' recruitment to fill up the vacant teaching posts. The PU, based on NCTE guidelines, carried out the teachers' recruitment and even submitted the process of teachers' recruitment to the NCTE.

Khagendra Kumar, the head and dean (faculty of education), said: "We received the letter from the NCTE today (Monday). The confusion regarding admission of students at two BEd colleges has come to an end with the letter."

Khagendra said: "Both the colleges have recruited 30 teachers, 15 each, based on which we have received the affiliation to run the BEd course."

During inspection, the NCTE team had found that against the NCTE norms of 15 teachers at each of the two institutions, there were two teachers at Patna Training College and one teacher at Patna Women's Training College, respectively. After the inspection, the NCTE had sent letters to both the colleges, informing the college administration that affiliations of both had been suspended because of insufficient number of teachers.

The Women's Training College has received a merit list of 100 candidates based on which admission will be carried out. Similarly, Patna Training College too has received a merit list of 97 candidates for admission. Of 82,132 candidates who took the exam on July 15, around 61,000 were declared successful for around 33,700 BEd seats in 314 private and government BEd colleges. Counselling of candidates was carried out followed by which seats were allotted to students based on marks scored in the test.
