Rajat Anand (16), a Class X student of St Dominic Savio's High School, was allegedly thrashed by his physics teacher on Friday, leading to multiple fractures in his left arm.
The boy's parents have lodged an FIR against the teacher, J.P. Srivastava, and the school. Sanjay Anand, Rajat's businessman father, said the incident occurred around 10.30am when the third period was on.
The school authorities let the man escape
St. Dominic Savio's High School, located at Nasriganj in Digha, is a Christian minority institution which was founded in 1982. It is established and administered by the Society of St. Dominic Savio's whose members belong to the Anglo-Indian-Community.
In 2010, the ministry of women and child development issued guidelines that banned corporal punishment in schools. Guidelines said violation will invite up to a year in jail or a fine of Rs 50,000 or both. For subsequent violations, imprison ment can be extended to three years with an additional fine of Rs 25,000. Heads of schools will be responsible to prevent such punishment. Teachers found guilty can be denied promotion, and even increments.
