Students take part in a monsoon camp at Tarumitra Ashram in Patna on Monday. Around 36 students from four different schools of West Champaran, including St Michael’s Academy, Ramakrishna Mission School, Notre Dame Public School, St John’s High School and Delhi Public School, participated in the four-day event organised by the non-government organisation that ended on Monday. Sadre Alam, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, helped Tarumitra organise the camp. Alam said: “The theme of the camp was organic kitchen garden. We showed students the organic kitchen garden at Tarumitra and motivated them to create a similar garden at their homes. Farmers in Bihar lavishly use banned pesticides and people are forced to intake pesticide-laced food. This can cause cancer and cardiac problems among the people. The farmers, therefore, should be motivated to adopt organic farming.” Text by Shuchismita Chakraborty, picture by Ashok Sinha |
