Patna: The Bikram-based trauma centre will also have an organ retrieval unit besides a triage system for better management of mass casualties.
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) medical superintendent, Dr Manish Mandal, on Saturday said three people had been given the responsibility of making the detailed project report (DPR) by the IGIMS for the Bikram-based trauma centre and the best among the three will be submitted to the government for execution.
The health department has given in-principle approval to the IGIMS proposal for adopting the Bikram-based trauma centre. It has now sought technical feasibility assessment/ project report from the IGIMS for properly handing over the project to the hospital. The joint secretary of the health department, Kaushal Kishore, issued a notification in this regard in the second week of June.
"The Bikram-based trauma centre will have trauma treatment facilities. Besides, it would also have organ retrieval unit. Under this system, liver, kidney, heart and other organs will be retrieved from dead bodies and will be transported to the IGIMS for organ transplant procedure. It will have triage system to handle mass casualties. The triage system will aim at speedy identification of patients and nature of their emergency. Red, yellow and green zones will be created and patients will be taken to different zones on the basis of their degree of illness and their treatment will be started on prioritisation level. All this has been asked to include in the DPR," added Mandal.
The health department also has plans to set up separate trauma centres at the IGIMS and Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital.
