The traffic police have come out with alternative plans for the human chain event after the high court permitted the Bihar government to go ahead with a rider that traffic will not be stopped on state and national highways.
As per the new plan, traffic will be restricted only on single-lane routes. Traffic will move on one route while the other will be for the human chain. Earlier, the state government had put a brake on movement of traffic on all national and state highways from 10.15am to 3pm. Also, there will be traffic restrictions at trisections or roundabouts when human chains pass - from 12.15noon to 1pm.
Bailey Road - the lifeline of Patna, a 15km stretch that was to be closed earlier - will now be operational. People can use one flank, leaving the other for the human chain.
Commuters going from Patna Junction/Dakbungalow roundabout can use the left side (south flank) of Bailey road passing through Income Tax roundabout, Hartali Mor, below the Sheikhpura bridge reaching at Saguna Mor, Danapur station reaching Bihta and Koelwar bridge.
Earlier, both flanks were closed for commuters. However, the flank will be opened only for commuters going from east to west (Dakbungalow to Saguna Mor). For commuters coming from Saguna Mor towards Patna Junction the traffic department has planned alternative routes. For commuters coming from Ashiana Mor side to Patna Junction and Dakbungalow, they can go through Veterinary Road passing through the tonga stand, Anisabad Mor, Old Bypass, Mithapur and reach Patna Junction.
Similarly, those coming from the Kurji side can go to Patna Junction after taking a turn at Patliputra, Boring Road, Western Boring Canal road, Hartali More, Daroga Rai Path, R-Block can reach Patna Junction. Earlier, movement on Kurji Road was blocked. Similarly, commuters going to Patna airport from Boring road can reach Patel Nagar roundabout passing through IPS Mess Mor.
Patna traffic SP P.K. Das said: "The new traffic plan has been based on Patna High Court's directives. Our primary focus is to ensure nobody faces any kind of inconvenience because of the human chain." Das said ambulances and "press" cars will be given way for movement.
Similarly, alterative traffic arrangements have been made on the Gandhi Setu, which connects north Bihar to Patna. Vehicles going to Hajipur can go through the left side of Gandhi Setu, passing through Zero Mile and Dhunki Mor, reaching Hajipur.
Sources said traffic personnel were busy till evening in finalising the new plans.
As the new traffic plan has come at the eleventh hour, the traffic department will issue advertisements on the new traffic sketch in the Saturday edition of newspapers.
