Gaya: Police on Thursday evening lodged a case under Section 306 of the IPC (abetment of suicide) against Tekari sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manish Kumar.
The criminal case bearing registration no. 39/18 has been filed in the Paraiyya police station of the district on the basis of a written complaint made by the deceased sub-inspector (SI) Gauri Shankar Thakur's son, Abhisheikh Kumar.
Section 306 is a cognisable, non-bailable and non-compoundable (no compromise) section and carries a punishment of 10 years' rigorous imprisonment. Inspector Arun Rajak has been made the investigating officer of the case. Thakur shot himself dead on Thursday.
In the complaint, the SI's son has alleged that the DSP was harassing his father and at times, the SDPO used foul language against the SI who was denied leave for about one year. The complaint also said SI Thakur has a daughter and despite repeated requests he could not get leave to look for a match for her.
On a few occasions, Thakur even considered quitting the job, said the two-page complaint.
Officiating senior superintendent of police Gaurav Mangla defended the decision to make an inspector-rank officer the investigating officer in a case in which a superior officer is the accused. Mangla said he will personally supervise the case and that action will be taken on the basis of the supervision report.
The Tekari SDPO in the past had courted controversy several times and homeguards even threatened agitation against him for his alleged high-handedness, roughness with subordinates and even pressurising the homeguards to massage his body. Senior police officers have received several complaints against him in the past.
Meanwhile, the Bihar Police Association has rallied behind the SI's family. Association state chief Mritunjay Kumar Singh has demanded early and effective action on the basis of complaint made by the SI's family.
