Bone-related diseases and old age generally go hand in hand but a solution to the problem is possible.
Orthopaedics of the city would interact with veterans in the field from across the country and abroad this weekend to learn and discuss the latest advancements in geriatric orthopaedics.
Central zone orthopaedic association and Bihar orthopaedic association would jointly organise a two-day conference starting August 25 on old age bone-related problems with primary focus on osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
“Old-age problems are increasing in society, the most important of them being osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Many people have problems in bones and joints with increasing age and it becomes increasingly difficult to even perform the daily activities. We have decided to discuss such issues and how they can be treated,” said Dr Amulya Kumar Singh, the organising chairman of the event said at a news meet in Patna on Wednesday.
Renowned doctors from various metropolitan cities and abroad would deliver lectures on various aspects of geriatric orthopaedic diseases. Some of the eminent names are Dr Gyanshwari Prasad from the UK, Dr R.C. Meena, Jaipur, Dr SKS Marya, Delhi, Dr Ranjan Kamilya, Calcutta, Dr Sudhir Kapoor, Delhi, Dr S.M. Lakhotia, Calcutta.
“More than 500 delegates will be attending the conference apart from the prominent orthopaedics. There will be three orations and five guest lectures,” Singh said.
Some topics that will be discussed in the conference are — trimalleolar fracture, management of neglected fracture of neck femur, how to prevent complications in trochanteric fractures, subtrochanteric fractures, pilon fracture, role of nitric oxide donor in fracture healing and management of osteoporosis and metastatic disease of extremity.
On the last day of the conference, an awareness programme on bone and joint diseases of old age will also be held, which will be open for general masses. “We will provide them with the opportunity to interact with the experts where they can discuss their personal problems as well. This way they can get the consultation of leading surgeons on a single platform,” Singh added.
