Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar on Monday said stern action would be taken against investigating officers if they did not adhere to scientific ways of probe.

The SSP made his stand clear at a session at Jubba Sahni Auditorium Hall, during which he shared new-age investigation methods with the officers. Kumar gave the officers tips on how to prepare strong supervision notes and investigate cases.

The SSP said the traditional ways of investigating cases must be stopped. “The language of supervision notes and police diaries should be logical and pertinent. The officers should concentrate on improving the image of the police and perform in the right perspective,” he added.

“The image of the police has suffered a serious beating because of some officers who are in nexus with criminals in a bid to make money. The investigating officers must stop taking bribe for writing case diaries, supervision notes and filing chargesheets,” the SSP further said.

“Besides, the police should not harass innocent people and victims when the latter visit police stations to lodge complaints or FIRs,” Kumar said, adding that the aim of the investigating officers should be not to record statements of over seven witnesses in a case and should conduct videography at the places of occurrences.

The SSP said if allegations against accused are proved valid in course of investigation, they should be arrested. Reports of people sustaining injuries should be collected on time and submitted to court.

“The investigating officers must hand over the charges of cases following the transfer within five days. Else, the police headquarters has asked me to lodge FIRs against the erring investigating officers,” the SSP said.
