Patna, July 20: The law, it seems, has double standards in the capital.
Three youths, allegedly drunk, who had crashed a black Hyundai car underneath the bridge on Hardinge Road today under Sachivalaya police station, were released on personal bonds after their parents, said to be high-profile figures intervened. Meanwhile, the police have launched a drive against drunk driving from Monday.
The incident occurred today around 4pm when the youths were driving aimlessly at top speed. Most of the police officers in the Sachivalaya police station gave dodgy answers about the whole incident, when asked.
A senior police officer, when asked, said there were four boys and two girls in the car when the accident occurred. “They all belong to influential families. Three beer cans have been recovered from the car, which dashed against the bridge railing and spun around viciously owing to the impact. The front of the vehicle has been smashed. Though none of them was injured, a major accident could have happened if the car had hit someone. A boy and two girls fled the vehicle after the accident,” a police officer, on the condition of anonymity, told The Telegraph.
Later, the three boys were brought to Sachivalaya police station, but the officers there declined the fact.
After the boys were detained, the family of at least one boy came to the police station and had a talk with the police officers. The boys were let off around 5.30pm.
When contacted, the station house officer of Sachivalaya police station said: “The boys were released on a personal bond after their families came in. It was not a very serious accident.”
All attempts to contact Patna senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar proved futile as the officer didn’t answer the phone calls.
