Patna, Feb. 27: The ongoing Assembly session has brought disappointment for some ministers and MLAs as the timing of the session clashes with the World Cup matches. To make up for the loss, some are happy with the match alerts on cell phones, while others are satisfied with the highlights.

The Telegraph asked a few ministers and MLAs regarding the clash of timing of the Assembly session and the World Cup matches. Rural development department minister Nitish Mishra said: “I love watching cricket but the Assembly session is more important. I can’t compromise with the job. As far as matches are concerned, I get alerts on my cell phone, which update me with the scores.”

Labour minister Janardhan Singh Sigriwal, who was earlier a sports minister, said: “Everyone loves to watch cricket and especially when India plays against Pakistan in the World Cup. It is unfortunate that the Assembly session is on during the World Cup and we hardly get time to watch the matches but there is always a curiosity to know the scores. I won’t name but there are a few MLAs who skip the session to check the scores. Being a minister, I have to give top priority to my work because it is my duty.”

Information, public relations and transport minister Brishen Patel, too, is fond of the game and was eagerly waiting for the India-England match held yesterday. “The Assembly session is important and there is no other way but to be at the session because it’s our duty. I do watch matches when I go home after the session. The only thing that I miss is the first innings of a match,” Patel said.

The only Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA in Bihar, Sumit Kumar Singh from Chakai said: “I feel we should have watched the matches since World Cup is played every four years.”
