Time for gowns, medals at varsity

Girish Chandra Tripathi, Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor, will address Patna University's convocation.

Patna University vice-chancellor Y.C. Simhadri confirmed on Friday Tripathi would be the chief guest. Preparations began after Governor Ram Nath Kovind gave his nod and authorised Simhadri to preside over the event, scheduled to take place at SK Memorial Hall on October 27.

"The university has also invited education minister Ashok Choudhary as guest of honour, but his confirmation is awaited," said Simhadri. Out of 41 gold medalists, 29 are girls. Around 1,500 scholars will also get their degrees. The list of toppers and degree recipients is ready<> Those whose names are missing can contact their departments by October 15. No changes will be made once the final list is out."Gold medallists from the humanities streams include Prashant Raman Ravi (Hindi), Beauty Kumari (English), Manish Kumar Goswami (Sanskrit), Ramroop Choudhary (Maithili), Surjeet Khanra (Bengali), Hazra Siddiqui (Arabic), Mohammad Rizwan (Persian), Mohammad Ishtiyaque Ahmed (Urdu), Sushma Kumari (philosophy) and Chandani Kumari (mass communication).

Post-graduation toppers from social science streams include Anjali Anand (history), Shilpi (political science), Praneeta Nidhi (home science), Arnika Ranjan and Ranjeet Kumar Mani (ancient Indian history), Kavita Kumari (sociology), Puja Agarwal (economics), Natasha Sharma (psychology), Anna Fernandis (geography), Priya Raina (PMIR), Rakesh Roshan (rural studies), Rishikesh Ranjan (social work), Chandra Kiran Reena (music), Ritika Rai (women's studies) and Roma Bharti (library science).

Nidhi Sinha (physics), Swati Mishra (chemistry), Farha Aashiq (zoology), Sampoorna (botany), Nishi Jaiswal (geology), Naved Akhtar (mathematics), Rahul Singh (statistics), Swweta Rani (biochemistry), Preeti Sharma (biotechnology), Sangeeta Kumari (herbal chemistry), Sheema Anees (MCA) and Soni Kumari (environmental science) are science streams toppers. Commerce streams toppers include Shadmeen Hayat (commerce), Shalini Bhardwaj (MBA) and Shiv Kumar Sah (finance and control) while Neha Kumari Bhalotiya is the topper in the law department.
