The Central Bureau of Investigation has opted to take the help of cellphones to catch corrupt public servants working in central government organisations in the state.

The investigation agency has launched a special campaign to get feedback from the masses through text messages on 0612-2235588 and 09431016155. People can complain about central government employees indulging in corrupt practices or demanding bribe for any official work on the first number between 10.30am and 7pm on any working day. Complaints can also be lodged on the second number, which belongs to the director-general of police (DIG).

DIG (Patna branch) B.K. Singh, who was earlier posted as the superintendent of police, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has sent the message about the drive to the residents through text messages. He has deputed police personnel to receive information and note them down in a register. “We launched the campaign recently. Though the feedback is overwhelming, most complaints are related to state government employees. Some complaints are related to banks and the income tax department,” Singh told The Telegraph on Tuesday.

He added that an average of 40-50 complaints are received everyday, of which 80-90 per cent are related to irregularities committed by mukhiyas (panchayat heads) and block-level officials in appointment of teachers. “If we get written complaints against state government employees, we refer them to the state vigilance bureau or the vigilance cell of the department concerned,” he added. Sources said the CBI has decided to suitably reward informers. “We reward the informers after any major operation. As for trap cases, they are associated with the public. In such cases, aggrieved parties approach the agency for action,” a senior CBI officer said.
