Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday dared chief minister Nitish Kumar to book Union minister Ashwini Choubey's son Arjit Shashwat, arrested in Patna shortly after Saturday midnight, under the Crime Control Act (CCA).
Tejashwi said that Shashwat is responsible for inciting the communal violence in Bhagalpur and he should be booked under the CCA.
Under the CCA, the accused is not granted bail for a year because s/he is considered threat to law and order.
"If Nitish Kumar has guts and wants to prove that rule of law exists, he must ask police to book Arjit Shashwat under CCA," Tejashwi told The Telegraph.
"He is a threat to the society and police have strong evidence against him. The communal tension took place because of him; he is responsible for disturbing the communal harmony."
He said Arjit's arrest was an eyewash to fool the people of the state, and claimed that the BJP leader had not been nabbed but had surrendered before police.
"Accused of communal flare-up, the son of the Union minister surrendered himself just a few metres away from the CM's official residence. I am wondering why is NitishKumar's party calling the surrender as an arrest.
"Nitish Kumar should have some shame, as he has already tarnished his attire by going with the BJP and now he wants to stain the uniform of police," Tejashwi claimed.
The police, however, maintained they had arrested Arjit from Patna's Hanuman temple based on a tip-off.
The Arjit episode has exposed Nitish as a weak CM, Tejashwi declared.
"I am really concerned for Nitish Chacha (uncle) as the administration has lost its glory. Even an SHO (police station house officer) does not listen to the CM and his alliance partner's big leaders are also criticising him," the RJD leader said.
The younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad alleged that more than the BJP, it was Nitish who had hampered social justice and destroyed Dalit unity.
He also said that there is no need of an enemy in an alliance if Nitish is a part of it.
"You never know when Nitish will backstab. The enemy always fights from the front but a person like Nitish always attacks from the back while pretending to be a friend," Tejashwi alleged.
He also alleged that Prime Minister wants to replace the Constitution by implementing Manusmriti.
