
Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav on Wednesday got engaged to Aishwarya Rai, daughter of MLA Chandrika Prasad Rai, in a ceremony at Maurya hotel.
Only a handful of politicians close to the family were invited.
The ring ceremony took place at the hotel's Ashoka hall, and it was out of bounds for media. Lalu's close aide Bhola Yadav and MLA Shakti Yadav were given the responsibility to welcome guests at the hotel entrance. MLAs like Arun Yadav from Sandesh constituency and MLC Arjun Rai, who are very close to the family, were also invited apart from former Union minister Kanti Singh.
The family members of Aishwarya were the first to reach the venue as the programme was hosted by her family.
Aishwarya's father Chandrika Prasad Rai, MLA from Parsa constituency in Saran district, and mother Poornima Rai, who is a Patna Women's College professor, welcomed guests at the entrance of the Ashoka hall.

Girja Devi, younger sister of Tej Pratap's mother Rabri Devi, was the first from Lalu's family to reach the venue first. Six of Tej Pratap's seven sisters - Misa Bharti, Rohini Devi, Ragini Yadav, Hema Yadav, Anushka Yadav and Raj Lakshmi - were present. Lalu's third daughter Chanda Singh and her husband Vikram Singh were not present as both are in Singapore.
Samresh Singh, husband of Lalu's second daughter Rohini, was also not present. Rohini was there with children Aaditya, Arihant, and Aayana. The husbands of the five other sisters of Tej Pratap - Shailesh Kumar, Rahul Yadav, Vineet Yadav, Chiranjeev Rao and Tej Pratap Singh Yadav - were present.
Rabri Devi was standing next to her son throughout the function. Aishwarya's elder brother Apurva Rai was also present.
The menu for the roughly 200 guests was all-vegetarian. Green mango delight, margarita mocktails, fruit punch and pineapple rasam were served as welcome drinks. Snacks included paneer kastoori kebab and bruschetta with roasted cashew nuts coated with honey and sesame seeds.
Soups included a mixed vegetable one and a tomato soup. The main course fare was paneer birbali, veg nargisi kofta, bhindi kurkure, sabzi khwaish. aloo dum Kashmiri, Amritsari kulcha.
There was also dal, rice and desserts.
