The judicial system in the district is set for a hi-tech makeover in a few weeks.

An NGO, Dr Prabhat Das Foundation, on Tuesday launched a computer literacy programme for lawyers on the premises of Darbhanga Bar Association.

The event was inaugurated by the in-charge of district and sessions judge of Darbhanga District Court, Chandra Bhan Singh. Chief judicial magistrate Piyush Kamal Dixit, Darbhanga Bar Association secretary Indra Shekhar Mishra and others were also present on the occasion. “All the courtrooms would have a computer. Four computers have been installed so far,” Singh said.

He added: “It would benefit the legal system if lawyers are comfortable working on computer. We have already introduced video-conferencing so that trials can be conducted faster and justice is delivered on time.”

Mishra said: “About 1,700 advocates are registered with the Darbhanga Bar Association. They will be taught theory as well as practical application of computer in batches of 30. The training will be for free. The awareness programme will ensure speedy trial of cases where electronic evidences would be produced before the court.”

Mishra added: “We are in the process of creating an e-library. This would help advocates have access to verdicts of the Supreme Court and high courts. They can also look up the Internet for information on legal matters. The lawyers have to be conversant with computer technology.”

State co-ordinator of the NGO Mukesh Kumar Jha told The Telegraph: “We will provide the training for 21 days.”
