Teachers' meet focus on chemical innovations

Patna, Oct. 15: A convention of chemistry teachers and a seminar on green chemistry brought together a number of educationists and scientists from across the country to AN College today.

The three-day seminar is being jointly organised by the department of chemistry and Association of Chemistry Teachers, a national registered body of chemistry teachers of the country.

During the seminar, different chemistry scholars, including those from various institutes in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Gwalior and Haryana, would present separate research papers on the subject.

The inaugural function of the national convention was divided into three different sessions. R.K. Sharma, secretary of Royal Society, London, dealt with his topic, “Green chemistry for a sustainable future”. Krishna Nand Singh, a faculty of chemistry at Banaras Hindu University, presented his research paper on “Green Chemistry and Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis”, while Ram Kishore Prasad gave deliberations on “Supercritical fluids in green chemistry”.

R.K. Sharma, the chief guest on the occasion, said: “Chemistry is a very important subject for human beings. It is because of chemistry that our life span has increased. We can fight diseases with the help of medicines. Even the quality of life has increased because of innovations in chemistry.”

Mukul Das, a scientist at Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, stressed on developing new technologies that support sustainable development with the advancement of newer areas like nano technology.
