Patna, July 6: Twenty-four teachers from Magadh University and Patna University have come out with flying colours at a 10-day workshop that instilled in them leadership qualities and a basic knowledge of computers.
Participants from the two universities attended the workshop organised by the Union and state departments of human resource development (HRD) under National Mission on Education through Information Communication Technology at Magadh Mahila College.
On the final day today, the trainees shared their experience at the workshop.
Dipita Pal Choudhary, one of the participants, said: “This workshop was an amazing experience. We got to know about so many new things here, including a basic knowledge of computers. Our training started off with learning MS-Word where we learnt how to create and save a file. We were shown how to make calculations and tabulate data in MS-Excel and presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint. We also familiarised ourselves with the different education sites. Overall, it was a good experience. I would love it if such programmes are organised on a regular basis.”
Microsoft lent the technical support at the workshop and five computer experts were deputed to train the teachers.
Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, another participant, said: “This kind of programme was a long necessity of teachers, as computer knowledge is crucial in this age of information technology. However, there are several anomalies. Even if teachers are involved in this kind of training programme, the colleges do not have the proper infrastructure to help them retain it. Computers should be made available at the colleges under the National Mission on Education through Information Communication Technology.”
For Shefali Roy, a participant at the workshop and a faculty member at Patna Women’s College, it was a very good experience. She said: “When I pondered on whether to join the workshop or not, I had thought it would not be of much help. But now, my opinion has completely changed. As the days went by, I became very involved in the workshop and got to know many new things.”
Dolly Sinha, the principal of Magadh Mahila College, welcomed dignitaries, including Sarita Singh, consultant, state HRD department, and A.K. Nayak, the director of Indian Institute of Business Management, Patna, on the final day of the workshop.
