The results of Class X (matriculation) examination conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) are likely to be delayed this year, owing to the ongoing strike by contract and regular teachers at government schools.
On Friday, Shahi called a meeting of Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh at his chamber. The meeting was scheduled at 11.30am, but even 2pm, no delegation turned up.
On Friday, the Jan Sangathan Manch, Bihar, came in support of the contract teachers’ strike. The Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh has nearly 30,000 teachers comprising contract as well as regular.
Shahi said: “The teachers should join the schools in the larger interest of students so that matriculation results are declared on time. The state government has constituted a committee to look into the demands of contract teachers and the report will be implemented by July 1.”
Sources said if the teachers’ strike is prolonged, the matriculation results would be delayed by at least a month. In such a case, the future of 14 lakh students would hang in the balance. Pramod Chandravanshi, a student of Patna High School, said: “The results of matriculation examination are declared by first week of June but this year, owing to the strike, the results are likely to be delayed.”
BSEB Secretary Srinivas Chandra Tiwari said: “We are worried with strike of teachers but are helpless. However, the board is working out a mechanism so that results are declared on time once the teachers’ strike ends.”
