Patna: The Bihar Secondary Teachers' Association has threatened legal action against people defaming the Bihar Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh by posting vulgar and objectionable messages and comments on social networking sites, using its name, logo and letter head.
Over the past few months, the association has witnessed several incidents involving people posting vulgar comments with many of the remarks against the state government and its policies.
"In the past few months, we have come across several Facebook and WhatsApp messages, where people have posted vulgar messages on behalf of Bihar Madhyamik Sikshak Sangh," said Bihar Secondary Teachers' Association president and MLC Kedar Pandey.
"On several occasions, we have opposed government policies and schemes and in near future, we will oppose such policies which are against students and teachers. But while opposing government we are cautious in choosing words. We never use words or statements, which are unconstitutional or hurt the sentiments of others," added Pandey.
The teachers' association president has asked people to withdraw such posts failing which the association will opt for legal action under the IT Act, cyber crime and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Association spokesperson Abhishek Kumar said for any communiqué between the government and the association, only its president and general secretary are authorised to make statements on behalf of the association apart from its spokespersons. Similarly, at the district level too, the same structure is followed with its district unit office-bearer entitled to make any statement on behalf of the association.
The education department has asked the teachers' association to check people posting vulgar remarks defaming the association.
Last week, Patna district education officer Jyoti Kumar issued a notification ordering legal action against teachers spreading rumours, fake news or using vulgar language.
District education officer Jyoti Kumar said the notification was issued after the department came across many fake posts and posts involving indecent language by teachers.
The education department and teachers' association in the past few months have come to know that many teachers are uploading vulgar comments criticising the government after the declaration of the Intermediate and matriculation examination results.
